School for East Elementary students is going to look a little bit different the week of May 11-15 as they move over to the Southern Utah University campus. They will also spend two days — May 18-19 — rotating between the District offices, Cedar Middle School and the nearby baseball fields.
This is a unique and exciting experience for our students. Here are the top things parents should know.
The school day will end at 1:30 p.m. May 11-19. East Elementary students will not attend school May 20-22.
Safety and security of students is a top priority for our time on both campuses. Students will be safely escorted to one of the two buildings we are using on SUU’s campus from both the bus drop-off and parent drop-off by teachers and adult aides. Security personnel will be located in both buildings.
A single point of access at SUU will be the only door that can be entered by SUU personnel with an ID badge or parents with ID. it will be monitored by a school staff member. All other doors to the buildings will be locked during school hours.
Students who typically walk to East Elementary will be picked up at one of four designated temporary bus stops near the school and transported to the off-site location. At the end of the day, they will be dropped off at those same locations. Bus stops and schedule can be downloaded here.
Areas at both locations have been identified for the serving of school breakfast and lunch. Inclement weather locations have also been identified.
Fun educational activities are being planned to make this a special experience for students. Those activities include a SUU future Thunderbird shirt and backpack for every East student and a “graduation” ceremony on Friday, May 15. Other activities at SUU include museum visits, special guest speakers and more.
Already scheduled field trips will still be held. Look for more communication from teachers on those details.
A parking lot at SUU has been reserved for parent pick-up and drop-off. Lot 4 is located near the Bennion Building and will be reserved for East parents. Parents can park in the middle stalls if they need to check a student in or out during the day. The office will be located in Room 208 of the Education Building. Please follow best driving practices when picking up and dropping off students. DO NOT drop students off across the street as there will not be a crossing guard to assist.
Download this map for class locations and parent drop-off location. Other parking lots are also identified for parking.
