The Iron County School District is pleased to announce its plan to offer Full-day Kindergarten at all nine elementary schools beginning in the fall of 2023.
The plan was developed in response to the Utah Legislature’s passage of HB477, which provides weighted pupil funding for kindergarten students. Legislation also requires availability of a half-day option at each school. Parents choosing to opt out of the full-day kindergarten would need to provide pick-up transportation for their student just prior to lunch. Students would attend in the morning only.
Transportation and school meals will be available for students in Full-day Kindergarten. Students who qualify for transportation due to distance will be transported on the same buses that currently transport elementary students in the neighborhood.
Due to space availability, two schools — North and Three Peaks — will also have half-day sections. More information about how students will be enrolled in classes at those schools will be communicated with parents.
Below is an outline of the full-day kindergarten availability at each school, as well as a link to frequently asked questions, why full-day kindergarten is good for students and research into the benefits of full-day kindergarten:
